Nestled near the town of Dambulla in central Sri Lanka, Diyabubula, the Barberyn Art & Jungle Hideaway, comprises five exquisite villas. Conceived by the renowned Sri Lankan artist, Laki Senanayake, this sanctuary was envisioned as both a hideaway and a water garden. Laki graciously shared this serene oasis with us, choosing to live and create within his minimalist space until his passing in June 2021.
In honor of Laki’s vision, Diyabubula is seamlessly blending his abode and studio with our Art and Jungle Lodge. This integration is a tribute to Laki’s desire to preserve his legacy of art, sculpture, architecture, and biodiversity. It is a precious responsibility that we embrace wholeheartedly, inviting you to join us on this uncharted journey.

Lake House
The two-story area, which is directly accessible from Lakis Terrace and is centred on a diyabubula-aged tree, features a translucent triangle roof. The bedroom, which is located on the terrace level, has a view of the lake, which served as inspiration for Laki’s amazing artwork.

Water Villas
Each water villa is two stories and is constructed from rail sleepers and other reclaimed timber. Upstairs is the large bedroom. It features a king-size bed and all the amenities needed to enjoy the stunning furnishings and large, dramatic artwork that were both done by Laki Senanayake.

The Bamboo Grove
Another creative concept from Laki is the Bamboo Grove villa, which features a transparent triangle roof covered in bamboo canopies, allowing you to see the stunning night sky from the comfort of your double bed. The villa features an en suite bathroom with a shower and a terrace, as well as water running beneath it.

The Tree House
The live Arcunut trees that support the rafters of Laki’s tree home are a really unique construction. They have been conditioned to grow at an angle, which helps them to create the roof’s framework. A double bed bedroom and a daybed-equipped sitting space are located on the ground level.
